Bloody Rain! Will it Ever Stop?

We've had wet periods before but one thing that really gets up my pipe is that all this excess water is going to waste and some of the various water authorities have said they cannot guarantee there won't be a hosepipe ban if we get a long dry spell in Summer. They were discussing this a couple...

    Immobiliser and Fuel cut solenoid

Tempting fate here but I've never had trouble with the immobiliser. When I had an extra key cut the dealer had to wipe the immobiliser ECU as it already had 4 keys registered which is the max allowed. Fortunately the key I got with the truck was the master which is needed to wipe/reprogram the...

    Immobiliser and Fuel cut solenoid

That cover is present on mine although it's not shown in the FSM. The TVSS and immobiliser are completely separate. The immobiliser was factory fitted and the TVSS isn't but was fitted by Toyota GB.

    Glow plug light staying on

The relay underneath the battery box that powers the 1HD-FT's intake heater, was/is certainly an issue and needs checking but it won't bring on the light on the dash. It's just a basic relay that operates when told to and has no input to the actual operation of the cold start heater. I changed...

    Radiator Replacement - Other jobs?

Not sure why anyone would want to order OEM nuts and bolts when there are numerous companies in the UK that make and stock them. You might as well replace them with stainless while you're at it. A bespoke vehicle component is one thing but general nuts and bolts?

    Leisure Battery Alternative ?

I've not seen these before, dual purpose starter/deep cycle leisure batteries. If they physically fit then I can't really see any problem other than they're not "handed" like the Varta's are so a bit of cable rerouting may be required and also new clamps. I'm not that clued up on the boating...

I drove slightly less than 40 second after loss of oil pressure - what is the odds for permanent damage to the engine ?

Did the oil pressure drop suddenly without warning? Have you noticed the oil pressure getting lower over time? I'd expect a clogging oil strainer to show this as it gets worse. The main and BEB's will be the first things to suffer from a pressure loss, especially if the engine is under heavy...

    80 Series brake lines - pre-made?

You don't need to spend that on a flaring tool. I bought one for around £25 whcih does the different typres of flare, inverted, bubble, double bubble etc. Once you've done a couple it's child's play and the pipe, copper/cunifer and the union nuts are cheap enough. I replaaced my flexis a couple...

What is the world coming to?

    Really?

Does the estimate include uprating of brakes, suspension and the rest of the transmission? A standard LS3 puts out around 430bhp with similar torque figures, way too much for standard 80 running gear IMO, plus if they've never done an 80 before they're bound to hit unforeseen problems and...

Help! - Mangled Locking Wheel Nut. Any Tips?

When I removed mine with the nut welding method, I shielded the alloy wheel with a piece of thin wall tubing just big enough to fit in the nut well, then made a good job of the weld. I suspect the localised intense heat of the welding process helped a lot here.

The knackered locking nut has a revolving collar round the outside which spins so I doubt these would work even if they were big enough.

Insurance - Add Additional Vehicle vs Take Out New Policy?

There's so many factors that will affect this. I've done this with bikes but not cars and found prices vary massively from company to company and vehicle to vehicle. A company here in Sheffield, who supply springs to vehicle manufacturers and racing teams etc, can make any spring to any spec. In daylight, dash illumination (especially on an 80 series) is practically invisible so, if you came out of thick fog to brighter conditions lets say, you could forget the lights were on.
