He's been under it for the last 2 nights with an assortment of wire brushes on a drill and angle grinder with flap discs, and He's making real good progress to be fair. Got chassis and floorpan back to shiny metal. We're then dropping the bumper maybe tomorrow night and cut out the rot and make plates to be welded in. When it's back it will get a few coats of something to keep it good. He is absolutely buzzing for it

Well another night underneath the old amazon. Towbar off bumper off last night. Chassis ends behind towbar unsaveable. Getting sections folded up this weekend. Made the driver side rear repair section for behind the bumper also tonight. Cut the rot out inside the arch too. James is still on the flap disc and wire wheel. Might take a break from it tomorrow and get a decent day on Saturday. Will be a decent truck when done.

Couldn't you just curse the previous owners of so many of these motors, even if they didn't want to do anything themselves finding a back street garage to spray old engine oil/anything oily underneath every couple of years these vehicles wouldn't be anywhere near so rotten.

When a vehicle get's a reputation for reliability toughness and longevity, many people might read that as being able to get away with minimal maintenance, just put fuel in and change the oil now and again, nothing else required. A good reputation can often turn out to be a vehicle's Achilles Heel.

Totally agree. I'm guilty of that with my old mk4 hilux. Just keeps on going. However I suppose if they were all kept really well the bargain basement project cars would either not be there or too expensive anyway.
