STOLEN!!!! KZJ78 silver and grey - please help!

I believe that the cars that are stolen for an African destination are more the "bling" cars. The cost of containerising such a car doesnt warrant the cost they will get when they sell it. It wont be going to Kenya as the duty on older cars is too high, could be Ug or TZ perhaps. The local cops...

Can you lift the body off the chassis on a Colorado?

Hi, I have lifted more than 6 90 series and it is a great way to "service" your car. You need 4 x 200 litre drums, 4pc 6x2 timbers, 3.5m long, a lot of small wooden blocks and a bit of time. It takes about 8 hours to get it off, but then everything is there for you, I have had to do some chassis...

Excessive play in transfer box KZJ90

I had one car that had been driving forever (about 1000km) with the centre diff locked and everything had been hot and horrible. The box was discoloured and the chain was stretched. The cost for a chain was about $250 and time was about 5 hours. sorted it out nicely

Rusted rear body mounts - bloody land cruiser!

STOP PRESS!! sorry I am a bit late but it is so much easier to lift the body off the chassis. I have now done a handful this way and all the little jobs can be done at the same time. Lifting off can be done with a bunch of strong 6x2 timbers, 44 drums and a couple of hi lift jacks. I have done...

    Dash Rattle

Hi, perhaps I should put this under the bodge thread but, Remove glove box and look onto the frame behind the a/c plastic and you will see 2 studs 6mm fixed to the frame. I cut a piece of ally strip and bolt it to them and run the ally behind the plastic dash and drill and screw the dash to...

Headlamp adjustment and rear end sagging

I had the problem of sagging springs in one of my cars and someone mentioned that fitting front springs from a Nissan Y61 std into the rear of a Prado. I did it and it is great, carries a heavy load and tows the boat as well

    Coolant loss help please

I agree with JMACD, it could be the rear heater pipes under the car. Take a rad pressure kit and pump up the system to 0.8 bar and then quietly look and watch for leaks (park on a clean dry floor)

    80 Series "unsettled" in corners

I want a stiffer ride at rear for Prado 90 series

Hi, I installed front springs off a Nissan Patrol Y60 into the rear of three of my Prados and they do the trick!! Great for towing and loads. I kept the shocks standard and I have had no problems so far (1 year later)

90 series - front suspension ball joint wear

One set of ball joints that I bought out of a toyota packet were fitted with grease nipples!! lovely, I put them on the car that I am driving. I have now fitted about 6 sets of ball joints and this was the only pair to have grease nipples. all of our cars operate on about 30% gravel roads...

90 series - front suspension ball joint wear

I have 8 units 95 series prados in amongst other vehicles. I first had a ball joint let go on a car with about 200,000km, same damage as what Bob had on his. I started changing all the vehicles ball joints but before I could complete the job, another one let go, similar mileage. I have seen...

    Air conditioner receiver tank leak

That tank is called a receiver /drier, or a filter. The seal that is leaking is an o-ring and it cannot be dismantled without losing the R142 gas from the a/c system. Go see your local mechanic and see if he has gauges and the facility to remove the gas and then recharge the system. the o- ring...

I FOUND IT !!!!!!!! it was the small plastic foot rub strip located under the rear passenger door held on with 2 screws. it was tough to find but i noticed one screw was rubbing direct to metal, the plastic tab had broken off one side. I swapped one with another car and bingo! birdy gone. not...

Which battery and other fun electrical issues (diesel 80 series)

Willard are a reasonable brand of battery for Malawi, look for SA brands. you should be able to go to blantyre or Lilongwe toyota garages and they could do a high rate discharge test on the batteries to see if they are shot or not. Follow the above advice and disconnect overnight as well

    fuel pump chirping.

Thanks, but I have done that on this car about a month ago. It has some effect (noise in the passenger footwell) but this one is quieter, not so much rpm related, noticeable at 60kmh or more, hot or cold, and becoming annoying!! it is not an air leak, I will keep on looking for tweety

Me and my big mouth........... I have just been given a car with what sounds like a similar noise. It is from behind the driver and sounds like a light whistle/ chirping, very light, but annoying. Did any of you manage to locate your little birdy?

    HZJ75 Overland Build

I have never been to Turkana, plenty of murram roads that way though, security seems to be ok lately but wise to check first of course. You will have to seriously look for anti tar roads between Namibia and Uganda, but they are there hidden away in quiet places........

ARB On-Board High Performance 12 Volt Twin Air Compressor (CKMTA12) install

Morning gents, just want to step in here a bit, I have read all your comments and all make sense. If I was to fit a comp I would consider the following: 1) there are many compressors on the market and a cheaper, lower cfm compressor might make it viable to fit a tank to give a faster air...

    HZJ75 Overland Build

A 70 litre water tank might be a bit OTT, unless you want to shower from it. Your wife will be proved right, the seats are not as comfortable, and less cab space than the 80 series. I will be interested to see the finished item. I am in Uganda, are you headed this way?

    Aircon and smoke

if tyhere was no gas in the system, and you started adding gas, the low pressure switch kicked in and allowed the clutch to engage. Perhaps the oil is low in the compressor? sounds to me like the comp locked up
