    Prado intermittent NO START

Most common cause in my experience is worn or dirty contacts in the starter solenoid but you say it's a new one; not unknown for new stuff to fail but unlikely. Only other things I can think of are a faulty ground connection somewhere (body to engine block maybe) or a fault in the ignition switch.

    1FZ 80 failed on emissions

I asked ChatGPT. "As of June 2025, the UK MOT test does not include a direct measurement of nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions. While the MOT assesses emissions such as carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and particulate matter (PM), NOx levels are not directly tested during the procedure...

    Rear Hub Axle Oil Seals

I feel your pain! There is a good "Timmy the tool man" Youtube video on these too where he goes into some detail about setting up the retaining ring etc. He had a special tool for using in a press to get all the bits off and back together afterwards. Probably has no relevance but I saw in my...

A silly question, FRONT propshaft phasing

Yes, full time 4WD so HL will lock the centre diff if you take the front prop shaft off and give you drive to the rear.

    This brings back some memories...

"Fifty quid for a set of tyres" and he thought that was expensive! Those were the days. We had a series III XJ12 as a test car when I worked for an oil company (luckily), you really could see the fuel gauge move if you thrashed it, I got 9mpg routinely. Lovely car.

Who is doing what maintenance today?

Dynax-S50 is the more fluid one for spraying in cavities. DynaxUB and Dynax-UC are for exposed surfaces and is more of a coating, B is for black and C is for clear. Good stuff in my opinion.

    New tyre time?

I put a set of Yokohama ATs on mine in 2013 and they have no cracking at all. They've only done 20,000 miles and have loads of tread left. I think the rubber has hardened and gives a poorer ride than when they were new. I'd certainly buy them again for my use which doesn't include any serious...

    Electric window gremlins

My rear left window didn't work for ten years either at the door or the master control; I bit the bullet last year and bought a £20 cheap Chinese knock-off master switch unit which fixed it. Years ago I had trouble with the central locking and that was due to broken wires in the loom between the...

    Hesitation on my V6 Collie

Thanks for that. I've looked at cleaning the MAF but the wires are well shrouded and I didn't want to break it. I cleaned the throttle body and IAC valve last year (they were pretty clean to start with). MOT man suggested looking for intake/exhaust leaks which I will do this year. If a MAF...

    New Ford Capri...

Had two "proper" Capris back when I was a yoof. The 3 litre S was a better car than the 2.8 Injection in my opinion, much nicer engine. I got the big Ford bug from my dad and The Sweeney who both had Consul 3 litre GTs. Took my driving test in the Consul which had flames painted on the...
