1HZ camshaft rebuild queries

Hi, new to the Landcruiser club. Have brought my little beauty this year, and stripped it right down to the subframe for a complete rebuild. I have now reached the stage of working on the motor. I have hit upon something that from all my past younger years of mechanical work, that has me puzzled. I found after pulling out the camshaft there is only 1 bearing shell at the beginning behind the timing belt pully. I thought there would be a set in every bearing cap but its just the one. Is this normal on this motor. does the camshaft just run on the head/ would appreciate any help from fellow members.

Hi and Welcome. Can’t comment on this engine but the Mercedes engine in the Cursed Smart Car rotates in the ally head and clamps with no shells at all. Hope this helps.
