49.6 C was the highest recorded temperature in Canada, during the current heatwave. At this latitude, this temperature is unheard of, elsewhere in the world. In Europe and Asia, just like in the Southern Hemisphere, when you reach 50 degrees from the Equator, high temperatures cannot exceed 40 C even in the most extreme heatwave. Meteorologists are puzzled by those numbers as last year, new heat records happened in Canada with 21 C = 70 F in Alert, at 82.5 degrees North! That is only a few hundred miles away from the geographic North Pole!
