'94 1HD-T Engine Number

sorry cannot help you with the position of the engine no. on the actual
engine but it is very important to get the correct no. from the engine and
from the vin plate / chassis by the wheel arch for your carnet as the
actual no. on your reg doc could have been copied incorrectly or the engine
changed and the reg doc not updated. it is important as occasionally, very
occasionally, you may get a police road block checking these things, esp. in
east africa where ther is a large trade in stolen 4x4s (toyota=92s being
favoured). this did happen to us in nairobi and we even got a special
sticker to say that we were interpol, or whoever, cleared.
the carnet is a beautiful document =96 it smooths over border crossings like
majic =96 that and comesa yellow card insurance. if you don=92t have a carnet of
course they=92ll ask for the original reg doc at every border but once you
have a carnet it=92s all they will ask for or need. this is true of every
country south of ethiopia anyway.
i've got mine with me if you want a look.

hi
you won=92t be able to buy it in sa but you will in bulawayo, harare or
livingstone. you=92ll buy local 3rd party insurance in sa, local again =3d as
you enter zim or zam and then go to an insurance broker in any of those =3d
three towns and they will be able to sort you out. one thing about the
comesa =3d is that it is not valid in the country in which you buy it =96 you=92ll
=3d have to have local 3rd party insurance first. in kenya the aa will sort
everything out but i can=92t remember the name of my insurer in bulawayo.
however i will find it tomorrow and i=92ll post it then.

jeff is a very experienced traveler and i greatly respect his opinion, =3d but
i have had the engine and chassis no.s on my vehicle checked by police =96 at
road blocks (not at borders) and so i recommend you get it right on the docs
the first time.

I haven't checked on a V5 but I think there is a space for engine number and
I think you can write to DVLA and ask them to correct the document? That
said if you haven't got long don't risk DVLA loosing the V5!
Is the engine number on an MOT document?
(Assuming this is a UK registered vehicle.)

Hi Peter,
The Engine number is on the block, under the inlet manifold to the
right of the oil filter.
Take a torch and a rag with you when you check it - might not be that
easy to read on a dull morning like this morning.
