a/c compressor

It makes a sound like something is catching on something and does not put out very cold air, it happened last year in France but I did nothing about it as winter was on the way, decided to do something about it now as hopefully we will have a BBQ summer....
Compressor for a 55 LC5 is 88320-35730, list is €633.14.
Ian Rubie will most likely better that.
Are you sure it's the compressor? I've had issues twice now with the magnetic clutch, which made an awful racket, and the a/c didn't work too well. Mr T fixed it under warranty both times - the last fix seems to have done the trick (touches wood ....
)
Maybe get an a/c specialist (NOT KwikTwit) to have a listen for you?

I had a fault with the compressor on the Volvo & after a number of quotes & some prety shady advice I decided to research the fault myself & have a go @ fixing it It took me 3hrs, a home made puller & no materials or costs 
The fault was as follows, it would work fine for 1 or 2 minutes then stop & work no more 
When working it would occasionally make a clattering/chattering type noise 
What it was was the air gap on the magnetic clutch had become to large & so it would pull in giving drive when the coil was cold but once warm would fail The air gap should be something like (don't quote me) 0.6 to 0.8mm & mine was something like 1.2mm Remedy was to remove the front pulley, remove one of the already fitted shims to bring the clutch air gap back into tolerence, bolt the pulley back on & bobs your uncle No need to remove pump, pipes or have a regass

Just had the report back from Mr T. They reckon the compressor and the clutch has gone due to the gas running out!!!
Parts alone come to £1,310.46 with 3 hours labour to go on and then a re-gas.
Good job its not hot at the moment cos I'm not paying nearly £1500.00 to keep cool...

What ever about the clutch needing replacement, get it regassed and try it from there. Mine was empty for years before I bought my 120. I got it checked for leaks and refilled and no issues (till I smahed the front off it that it is
). There's a pressure switch in the system that will keep if all off if there's no gas, to protect compressor. I'll put £100 on it that the compressor is fine. Sort your clutch and take it from there....

On the other hand I have just received a price of £295 including postage for a total rebuild from AC Recyclers in Chertsey and it comes with a 12 month warranty so if plan 'A' doesn't work I think I'll go for the rebuild, its certainly a lot less beer tokens than Mr T's 1500....
