Aerial mast replacement

Hi again,
A couple of years ago, some little scrote in South Africa nicked the
aerial mast from my FZJ80. I've struggled by with just radio 2 and
bbc radio lancashire since then (you don't seem to need an aerial to
get those). Anyway, I saw this on eBay:
Item 110408172061

It is too good to be true?
My motor/wiring and bracket are all fine, so I just wondered if anyone
else has experience of this 'miracle' mast replacement?
It claims to be a replacement for Toyota part 86337, whatever that is.
cheers,
Andy

I've replaced the mast on mine twice now, but all I've been able to buy from Toyota was the steel shaft, with no ridged plastic attached underneath. So I have a fully manual aerial!
The price from Toyota last year was about =A328 delivered, so I think you have nothing to lose by trying this: if it works the great, and if it doesn't you still have a cheaper manual aerial shaft.
One warning: the first time I did it the job (in 2001) it took 5 minutes, but unfortunately I didn't grease the threads on the chrome plated nut that you unscrew to replace the mast. So it corroded up and the 2nd time (last year) took me two hours, a lot of swearing, and I ended up breaking the hollow aluminium shaft going down to the motor and taking the motor out in disgust.

Guys
Don't know if this is of any use.
I bought a secondhand Saab aerial from a scrap yard for ?10 and it fit with
only a small bend in the bracket that holds the bottom inside the wing. It
is now fully auto without the need to use the buttons on the dash.
The only downfall is you need to switch the radio off when off roading
through low trees to make the aerial come down.
Not a big deal as my radio is usually off with the CB on.
The Saab, incidentally, was one of the 93/95 type with the aerial next to
the boot lid. I think the older BMW series 3 type may also fit.
It's all to do with the collar that is shaped to fit the body, the rest of
the aerial is much the same on a lot of motors.
Cheers
Les

Hi Chaps,
Thanks for the info on the aerial situation. I've ordered one of
these pattern ones and I'll post up how I get on with it. As Chris
says below, if the nylon cord element of it doesn't work out for some reason, at least I'll have a manual mast.
Cheers for now,
Andy
