Air con problem diagnosis

As long as it's switched on at the rear of the centre console and the control knob is not turned to 'heat' it'll soon get very cool very quickly in the back with a working a/c system ;-)

I'm sure I was getting cool air in the front and not in the back (even with the a/c light switch on and the rear dial on blue (cool) on the back of centre console)..........at that point I assumed they must be on different systems hence my earlier question re it having its own compressor!

Have had the system re-gassed and so far that seems to have worked. They leak tested and the vacuum was apparently good so fingers crossed. £75 at Toyota.

The main thing is to use it Beef. The gas is such a small molecule it leaks out the compressor shaft seal naturally but more so if not used at least once a week.

I know, I know, you're right. Except I tend to forget when it's cold and wet for 6 months! Lesson learned though.

You're not alone. We teach what we most need to learn. I do the same, and I need a top up!!

When the AC stopped working in my 80, the "experts" told me (after re-gassing) that the compressor wasn't circulating, although the clutch was working, blaming either a failed compressor or a non-functioning / late functioning viscous fan.

As both or either are expensive replacements I ignored it and after leaving the AC on during the start of this summer, it's now working fine!

My viscous fan does kick in when needed, so I'm happy now!

Glad you have it sorted!

So, having had the system degassed approx 3 weeks ago which seemed to resolve everything, a problem has reoccurred. Whilst on the motorway last week I suddenly noticed mist coming out of the air vents in the centre console. Initially i was worried it was smoke but no it was defo just air. Next time I got into the car - no cold air! Strange because it did work for a couple of weeks.

Back into Toyota tomorrow! Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Cheers

How did you get on with your re-visit to Toyota?

Are you now 'Cool:cool:'?

No, it's a suspected leak which would be big bucks to repair so I'm going to put the windows down instead.

Why is it so expensive to replace AC pipes? They sell kits/tools to make your own brake pipes - so why not AC pipes?

Anybody:confusion-shrug:

My local air con specialist always tries to cut out and replace sections of pipe when he can.... he nearly always just blanks the aircon pipes to the rear cabin if they are leaking. It is MUCH cheaper!
