Guys,

I have an African Outback RR, that is too short and I want to extend it by about a foot.

I cannot for the life of me find a supplier of ally flat bar that is anything like the RR stuff... You know the type you can slide a hex bolt into each side of the flat strip.

Does anyone know who/where I can get this stuff from.

Thanks

Lazz

Wow, that's pretty specialist. I have the AO rack too so I know what you mean. It's an extrusion I think. I hope you do find some, but I have to say it's not going to be easy. You could try AO of course. Other last ditch effort would be to buy some solid flat and have the slots milled out (slotted cutter).
I'll look and see if I can find a cutting head that would do it. Just in case you end up going that way.

Take a trip down to your nearest commercial vehicle body builder, they will most likely have an Aladin's cave of all things ally

Will take pics in morning and post.

Re: Aluminium supplier help. - Result!!!

Well I hawked this around all over the place in the UK without much success.

Eventually managed to contact and speak to the main man Adolf at AO. Initially he refused to help stating that they do not supply the public with bits, previous bad experience! I persisted and explained that I already had a roof rack, and that if I wanted to copy the pattern I had a rack to do it with, and it was a genuine enquiry for a problem I had. Eventually he relented and sent over a load of extra stuff to enable me to get the rack extended. Even got a full stress analysis report of the roof rack and aluminium used in manufacture.

Not surprising however, I ordered something from Australia and it took 5 working days via air mail post..... this was sent the same day from SA, but it took SAPO/Parcel force 5 weeks to arrive having got to Joburg intl sorting office within 2 days of posting by AO..go figure.

Anyway off to the ally welder today to see what he can do!
