An old Arab trick.

Need to remember that one
Might make kits up and sell on weston beach.

ahhh bless the media for get basic facts wrong lol centuries old trick for extracting something that hadn't been invented

2 serious notes

1 the arabs were way more advanced centuries ago than the current media would have us believe - most modern surgical instruments were used by the arabs at the time of the crusades

2 that is a very useful trick, must add sand bags to my recovery kit

alternatively, what they could have done is dig out under the truck, reduce their tyre pressures (which they appear not to have done) and driven out. A lot less effort and a lot less likely to get a length of rope twisted around your axles, ripping off your brake pipes in the process

Dig out under the truck, - surely THAT is a lot of effort??

it's a bit of effort, but a lot less than they have put in. I've done it many times and would rather do that any time than piss about like they are!

You only need to dig out under the diffs and in front of the wheels, unless you've really badly bogged it in which case you would also need to dig out under the chassis rails and fuel tank, but not too bad with a decent shovel.

thats a really bad bogging, if you know what your doing it should get that bad, but this was early on in my experience!

This one is better, I always tended to keep going denying the inevitable so getting bogged worse, my mate was always better at getting stuck than me, if you see what I mean!!

Both trucks were massively overloaded which didn't help, each carried around 1/2-3/4 ton of school books, plus all the usual camping kit, spares, personal kit etc but even so, letting the tyres down got us out of most situations.

This was over half a dozen 2wd cars ectracted by a mixture of digging, towing and reducing tyre pressures.

If you don't have a difflock, you'll need two straps.

Centuries ago it was easier: with a camel, you tie around the testicles and only one rope is needed.

The technique is also slightly different. Instead of burying the sandbag, once it is tied you throw it away as hard as you can. It is impressive to see how fast the camel gets unstuck...

That was a good result moggy, with that load. Even better with a decent shovel, is a decent shoveller you can rope in! BTW I like the barbie truck!

I guess its much harder work while wearing a frock

I have got similar - never used, came without instructions. What happens when required height reached, do you take hose off exhaust, or will it deflate again, is there a one way valve, - if so how do you deflate it? Apologies for deviation of thread all.

Just turn the engine off, backfill under the wheels then deflate the bag....

I used to use an air bag which connected to the exhaust, it lifted the car, backfilled the sand and away you go...

similar to one of these http://www.streamlineimport.com/

I had a draper one of those for the landcruiser expedition. first time I tried it, it blew off the exhaust and turned me into one of the black and white minstrels!! never used it again. It's a good idea, but it couldn't cope with the weight so a proper commercial one is on my shopping list. You can get ones that you can also inflate from your compressor.
