Auto starting off in 2nd or 3rd ???

I've recently purchased a 2002 D4-D Auto. It appears to be starting off in 2nd or 3rd when D is selected, but will drop down into first or low when selected manually.

I have also just been down the new rad and transmission flush route !! Any other switchs or relays that should be checked ???

Your thoughts please ?

Was the rad changed because the atf was contaminated?

The auto gearbox contains clutchs which are damaged by the antifreeze/atf mix, so if thats the case its not good news, but only way to check is to strip it down.....

Did you do the flush - if so, how much atf did you use? If it was a garage, how much did they put through?

All of the atf needs to come out, think its about 7litres, but draining it off only brings out about 2litres, so its a bit of a long process of topping up and draining off - Ive read that you can pump the fluid out by disconnecting one pipe and running it into a bucket, but this means running it dry briefly. Any contamination in the box will give strange operating symptoms.
