I really need help.
I know that most of you are in uk where at every corner you have a
toyota dealer,
but the risk i took because i love the car, is to import from japan a
HDJ101.
Now my auto transmission is bad, the car is laying in my yard, like a
dead body.
I have been trying to find a new one or recon one until now without success.
If one of you know a supplier or a reconditionner , i could send my one
to be recon,
or to buy a new one.
I assume that japan car are differents from uk cars ?
Any help would be welcome.

Hi Michel,
What problems are you having with the box?
In the UK you can get the gearbox rebuilt for about ?1500-?2500 GB
Pounds, however the chances are that they will want your box to rebuild.
You could try Maarten @ http://www.all-american.nl to see if they sell a
reconditioned one.
Other options, try to track someone down in South Africa - if you want I
can try to make some enquiries with contacts I have down there.
Also, you could try Rodney at http://www.automatictransmission.com.au/
in Aus - they are extremely knowledgeable about LC auto boxes.
Good luck.

What year is your HDJ?
The converters up to 5 June 2001 (VIN: JTEHC05J904005603) had a problem,
described in a TSB saying "This Service Bulletin is to inform you that the
Torque Converter has been modified to improve driveability such as
reducing judder during hard braking." But afaik what happens is that the
converter "falls apart" and the pieces will destroy the gearbox as well.
The new modified converters have a painted black dot of 30 mm diam on two
sides. This is btw a common warranty repair.
