Brake pads

My front pads are branded 'Solid Ace' and supplied by Phil at Japanese 4X4
of Brum Auto Parts.
Never had them fade after 2 years and I do tend to go down steep inclines
with a lot of bends - often hairpins out here, so plenty of scope to test
them in extremes. Also remember that I have rear drums so the front discs
take more stress too. They were straight 80 replacements, nothing fancy.
You don't always have to think Milner ! Stops even better now I ave those
new Brembo discs too.

Interesting what you have discovered about pads from Milner. I too fitted a set about 9000 miles ago so looks like I should give them more than a cursory glance especially as it has just pased the MOT and temptation is to forget things. Anyone had experience of changing the cam belt on an 80 4.2 diesel. Looks staightforward but there is mention of a tension tool which I have not been able to source. Is it needed? I bought the new belt from Milner, is this going to be a bad move to fit it and should I really go for a Toyota belt?

Hi Kirk,
I wouldn't critiscise all the stuff they sell - often a lot of it is
genuine Toyota kit, like many of the seals or it is kit made by the
same manufacturer for Toyota like the Koyo wheel bearings however I
have found a number of other things not up to the same standard as
Toyota kit including:
Brake Pads
Inner Axle Seals (part of their Front Axle seal kit - get the kit but
buy the genuine Inner Axle Seal for ?8.50 from Toyo - you still save a
hell of a lot of ??s)

Kirk,
No idea about the quality of Milner parts, but IMHO, like everything
else in life, if it costs cheap and looks cheap - it's worth as much
as you paid for it..
As for changing the belt - you don't need any special tools, just the
usual workshop set, including a torque wrench. The trick is not to
bend the tensioner spindle while putting the belt on.
