Hi,
I don't really want to start a political debate here, but thought you
should know about the folllowing:
I guess most of you have heard about the petition to try to scrap the
planned vehicle tracking and road pricing policy in the UK, well there
is another petition that you might be interested in:
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/reclaimRUPs/
"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to re-open the
greenlanes and public byways that have lost vechicular access under the
NERC bill."
If interested, please go and sign up on the petition.
Also if you know of others that might be interested, do pass on the
petition details.

Ahh that feels better, had my say.
I think the only problem now is the "scrap road charging" has set a bench
mark and petitions with less than a million signatures are not going to
register. All in all it might give the government something to think
about, particularly as postcode information can easily be analysed and
distributed to local MP's (think that happens?)
Other problem is I signed so many ot "scrap this" petitions it looks like
No. 10 are spamming me.

Anyone else surprised there seem to be no precautions on the web site to
stop some sort of robot entering lists of names, addresses and emails? I
thought there would be something like thegoogle type "read the impossible to
read digits and enter them"

Hi Malcolm,
not necessary when they have the email verification.

I thought that but surly the clever people out there could "autofill" the
form with emails to a domain and "auto respond" to the subsequent emails, I
would also guess the name rather than the email field is the unique
identifier as some households share and email address?
Have to say I like it, I would like to see No.10 putting up polls to get
public reaction, does seem that on serious issues the government usually go
against popular opinion, minor issues go with public opinion spun so they
look important.
On NERC, I think the petition is useful, overthrowing the bill is unlikely
but erosion of access is likely to continue with other schemes unless
resisted.

Hi Malcolm,
OK, going a bit techie and off topic, but here is a quick answer...
At the end of the day it doesn't matter - with any data collection form the
object is to verify the email address - this website does by sending out the
email to confirm it.
On the ELCO website it is spammed several times a day where they are
submitting junk about viagra, prescriptions, blackjack, loans, etc in the
list subscription form, the purpose is to get the info out there so all the
email address are fake. It's a pain in the rear to unsubscribe them, but I
have a new system in the process that will reolve the issue.
On a topical side note one of the headlines on this morning's news is that
the Police are having their knuckles wrapped for signing petitions from work
computers!
