Chassis

Hi, as some will know, I went through quite a saga with my LJ 78 a while
ago, I ended up having it rebuilt, engine, new custom radiator with larger
capacity, new fan, s/s exhaust etc, etc, had just run it in for 1500 Kms and
my other half lends it to her ex to pick up the kids, he drives it into a
ditch, result ,the chassis is 2cm out at the front, not a mark on the
vehicle and a changed tyre worked fine, can't quite bring myself to scrap
it, body is as new and so is the inside, 104.000 Kms and one owner before
me, shame to break it up, putting on a jig to straighten it is too expensive
,it drives ok but not wise perhaps to use it, anyone have any ideas?,
Regards,
Chris.

Hi Chris,
Flog it in Morocco - I saw several cars over there with far worse bends
drving along ;-)
I would either go for straightening it or see if you can pick up a
replacement chassis from a scrap yard (assuming reasonable condition)
and swap it over.
Failing all that I am sure someone else would be willing to buy it from
you to do the work themselves.

Opps, read the text again.

If it drives OK I wouldn=92t worry too much, I would try to straightened up a
bit. You might find some of the deviation is before mounts for the spring
etc, and if you have seen some of the home brew suspension modifications the
springs seem to allow for some alignment issues. (Imagine a worn set of
bushes and the deviation that allows).

If you find a nice flat car park do some heavy braking and acceleration,
straight ahead and with some steering applied =96 look for anything the
doesn=92t feel right, pulling to the side etc.
