Colorado/Prado fuel consumption

Hi,
I'm toying around with getting a Colorado/Prado for my wife this Autumn
and was wondering what sort of fuel consumption people are getting with
theirs.
Will be driving mainly local country lanes or short spurts down the
dual carriageway to the local town.

Hi Julian,
it really depends on the terrain, loading and driver.
In my case:
Easy road driving (80 km/h) unloaded - 10 l/100 km
Highway (loaded) - 13 l/100 km
African pistes (loaded + low gears) - 15 l/100 km
According to my experience - the average you can count on is 11-12 l/
100 km.
btw: a friend of mine was driving HDJ 80 (4.2 turbo) during our trip in
algeria and his fuel consumption was constantly lower although he was
fully loaded

Julian,
Mine used to give me between 23 and 29 MPG, never did get it to 30.

Another small bit of advice. Try and get one with the D4-D engine,
it's a good-un. Use a fuel pump lubrication additive occasionally.

I would also recommend you d4d engine.
The only drawback of d4d is that it is far more sensitive to fuel
quality - not really suitable for overlanding.

Tomaz,
It is the injectors that are fuel sensitive, they don't like the
new eco diesels, that is why it is a good idea to use an additive.

Thanks Guys.
Not actually looking to use it for Overlanding, I'll have my own LC for
that ;-) With a 4th child (finally a boy!!) due in December we need an
8 seater for the school run down the local country lanes - Gilly's
insisting on a 4wd and I don't want her using mine.
When did the d4d come in and what was the engine size?

hi julian,
d4d is 3 liter engine as well as the old 1kz-te but it has more power
(120 kW - old engine was 92 kW).
I'm not sure about the year - i guess it was 99 when they replaced
1kz-te with d4d.

Tomaz
