Crankshaft pulley clearance

Hi, I am a bit concerned about my harmonic balancer or crankshaft pulley clearance. I have heard of the rubber deteriorating in them allowing them to move and possible rub a hole in the front cover. Here is a pic of mine, how does it look to you guys?

Needs the tarnish cleaning up after months sat on the drive but here are a couple of pics of mine. I'm not sure what the symptoms of wear would be or what to look for... Never knew this was a wear item!

Getting through alternator belts faster than normal can be a symptom.

Thanks guys, looks like mine has the same clearance. I did try a pry bar and block of wood but the balancer seems solid. I have a problem with alternator belt squeal. I have fitted new belts and adjusted them as per normal but it is still there under acceleration. Don't want to go too tight. Maybe I should have a closer look at the alternator pulley?

New belts on my 80 were an ongoing headache of squealing until pissed off with it i tightened them too much aiming to stretch them , while squealing , for a few miles before setting them as i thought they should be again . Been fine ever since .

Not for the faint hearted but i wonder if you could feel balancer wobble if you held a screwdriver to the side of the pulley while it spun ?

Not wanting to high jack this thread, but i'm in the process of replacing the timing belt on a similar model, 2001 4.2L

The old belt didn't have a travel direction on it, but the new one does. Can anyone advise on the direction of rotation of the engine.
Does the cam pulley rotate clock wise or anti -clock when viewed from the front of the vehicle?

Just out of intrest, is you new belt a genuine Toyota timing belt? When I changed mine there was no direction of travel on the new belt or the old belt.

The crankshaft pulley rotates clockwise when viewed from the front.

The new one is from Milner 4 x 4, the old one was a Toyota.

I have had very, very bad experience with aftermarket timing belts, I would strongly advise you to fit genuine belt 1356819176.

Also, idler 1350517020, washer 9020112073, shaft/bolt 1355617010, tensioner 1354017011.

And also just incase you drop/misplace, bolt 9010906046 times 2, washer 9021008901 times 2, and bolt 9151180620 times 1.

I don't cut corners when it comes to things like timing belts, the results can be catastrophic.
