Cranshaft and pulley needed

Hi all,
For some weeks I've been hearing a strange noise from the engine but could
not locate the sopurce. Now it's official - the crankshaft pulley
(harmonic balacer is broken.
About 1/3 of the collar broke off and caused damage to the crankshaft.
The woodroof key rounded one side of the crankshaft keyway. Methinks a
new crankshaft (and pulley) will be needed.
Any idea about prices and availability in the UK?

Roman,
I was reading a land rover forum two days ago and there is a guy
there that has an 80 cruiser with a busted engine, I don't know why.
I will try to get some details.
Regards, Clive.

Roman, my friend had twice broken pulley and finally crankshaft.
Nobody know why it happend, prabably poorly curved central bolt
or sth else from X-files. Try to find reason If You can.

This is a very common problem on the Tdi Land Rovers. The problem is caused by the big bolt on the crank not being done up VERY tight after a timing belt change.

Pawel,
If the crankshaft had been repaired, I could offer an explanation why
it broke later. At least in my case will remain a mistery. The only
likely explanation is that the notorious Mr Boatwright isn't finished
with me yet. What he had bungled years ago was still there. My
suspicion is the crankshaft bolt that holds the pulley either wasn't
tight enough or worked itself loose, which caused space in the keyway
to vibrate, then round the edge of the keyway and finally position
itself flat in the keyway, which casued the pulley collar to break.
You gotta be cereful who you allow to work on your vehicle because the
effect may come years later (not a problem with a ford fiesta because
by that time it would have been scrapped anyway :)

Hi all,
Following a bit of archive search and talking to various people, I
decided to bite the bullet and order a new crankshaft - better safe
than sorry!
First I checked with Milner - "sorry we don't stock unusual parts".
Fair enough.
Next - a local Toyota parts department - "Yessir, that'll be =A31420
plus VAT, delivery after seven days".
Finally, a call to AAI in Holland - "OK, it's in stock and it'll cost
you ca =A3630 plus VAT"
Now, a little queez:

a) What's the profit margin pocketed by the Toyota parts department?
b) Who got my order?
Answers on a postcard, please...

Hi Roman
When my CV joint went I went to Toyota and the cost was 680 euro just for
the part which I paid, now I know I can get it from Milner for ?80.
