Croatia - 15 to 24 July 2008

Hi all ! It's time to start thinking about what holidays to go on and when for 2008... particularly as corporate life doesn't just let you say 'right oh, I'm off for a couple of weeks now!'.
To this end, my wife and I were thinking of an offroad adventure for 2008 that takes in a fair old amount of Europe.
Now we've both seen something that we wouldn't mind incorporating into our journey and i thought i'd put it up to ELCO members to join in... particularly as the company that organises the croatia segment would offer 25% discount [as a club discount] off the price if 6 or more vehicles booked.Specifically the trip is 10 days offroading in Croatia from 15th - 24th July 2008. My understanding is the approx. cost [before discount] is =A3495 per vehicle [not per person] with up to 4 people sharing per vehicle.
The company leading the tours is World 4x4 Adventures and I'm happy to be the liason between our club and this tour company if others are interested in joining me and my wife!
http://www.world4x4.co.uk/index.htmFinally, have a look at the website above, if you want more info [as I'm sure any prospective holiday candidate would!] then let me know and as i say above, I'm happy to be the liason for us all !

Clive,
So what's your opinion? Would you go with them again?

Sorry,
I have just got back to this topic.
Our Croatia trip was OK. We did not camp but used guest houses or
hotels all of the time. Camping is a good option for most of the trip
as most people seem to do this. The exeptions should be the first
couple of nights at Samobor, the rooms there are great and cheap.
Another exception is Senj, a wonderful little town,we had a room in a
house there that was great, short walk to the town etc. The camp site
there is also good. Robb, of 4x4 has the address. I did not take to
the night in Fuzine, staying and eating at one of Robbs contacts
hotel, it was over priced and the place has nothing else to commend
it. Bear in mind that camp sites are a bit expensive there, especially
if you are with a family, as they charge per person. We also had a
bad night at a site that Robb was trying for the first time, no doubt
that will not be used this year.
The towns of Zadar, Senj, Samobor, Pag and Rovinj are all worth
visiting, find the sea organ at Zadar. There is a wonderful coastline
to drive in Croatia but mind the road. Rijeka is an industrial area
that is better gone round on the motorway, if you have GPS, or can map
read, avoid it. My wife and I stayed an extra night in Senj, rather
than go back to Fuzine, then drove the coastline towards Pula to meet
the rest of the group, a great drive.
There is some good off roading, or laning, to be had. Our drive
over the mountains was good, also some of the forest tracks were nice.
Always have lunch with you as you don't know when you will stop.
This is a trip you could enjoy but it is a lot of driving, there
and back is a long way. We drove down to Mannheim and stayed at a
Formule One hotel, cheap overnight and go place, which was OK. My
Tomtom took me to the door but 200 yards before we arrived I would
have sworn we were lost. We then spent a night in Maribor before
dropping in to Croatia on Monday. Returning was done with only one
stop, again in Mannheim.
Robb is very approachable and has a good knowledge of the
country. Make sure you know what the days plan is and tell him if you
would like to do something different, if you don't speak up he will
assume that you want to do the same as him, not always true. Robb is
very easy going and laid back about things so if you want a regimented
type of break he is not for you.
If there is one bit of kit I am glad that I had it would be the
Engel. I left it for Two days in the heat of an unsheltered car park
while I was in Rovinj. The weather was so hot I went to check on the
car after a day. The fridge was still cold and the car started with no
problem.
I would go again, especially armed with the knowledge I now
have as I would be able to tailor things to my liking.

Thanks, Clive.
I've once had Tony Pritchard join us for a 4x4 trip to Poland and am
glad to hear his son is doing well, too.
