Hi Julian
Same old boring story the pulsating pedal is still there and I found a place
that can and will skim them.
Toyota wont bwecause the discs are too big for their machine I was told.

Hi John,
But do the disks actually need skimming? The pulsating pedal could be down to
a number of things.

Pulsating pedal could be a sign of worn pads or a problem with ABS if
fitted...
Just back from France so catching up on posts...

I have had a slight problem with my brakes too, When coming to a halt after
slow moving (in a traffic jam), at the last moment, just as the Cruiser
comes to a halt I get a very slight pulse, just one, from the pedal and the
brakes pull to the right, this ONLY happens after slow movement NEVER when
driving faster.
I assume it is something to do with the ABS but why does it only seem to
effect one wheel, I would have thought it would effect the whole braking
system?

I dont know, Im guessing and I dont know what else it could be that i could
find out and sure the boys in Toyota are no better. So just guessing with
the hope it is the discs.

Hey Jeremy
Mine is the primitive type no ABS, only had new discs and pads and calipers
fitted late last year. On anyone elses cruiser this would be fine but on
mine it would take a miracle to fix the problem even with all new bits.

Hi Chas,
I have exactly the same problem and have disabled ABS for the time being
until I can resolve it.
I suspect that it is down to one of the ABS sensors or the wiring to it
being faulty - does your ABS light come on at all?

Hi John,
I would be inclined to leave that until you can come over and we can check the
whole car over.
If you have new disks it could be that they were put on incorrectly and have
warped or it could be sticking callipers, etc, etc.
When were the disks replaced and who put them on?

Hi Julian,
No the ABS light doesn't come on. Except for when turning on ignition to
start.

Hey Julian
How could discs be put on wrongly.
Not that mine have been because after they were put on then I had new wheel
bearings fitted all round which would have meant removal of the discs.
So I think they should be on correctly.

Hi John,
ISTR that if you over tighten the bolts they can warp.
The disks come off with the hubs when doing the wheel bearings, you don't need
to take the disk off the hub.

Why not just check the discs?
First, check that the bearings are tight.
Then, put the car on four stands with all wheels in the air. Take off the
wheels and put back on three of the wheel bolts (or nuts). Spin the disk
while holding a stick of some kind against it, supported on a block or
something. You will soon see if the disk is warped. Then, if you have a
dial, you can accurately measure the warpage.
But, beware, loose bearings can lead to pulsation as well as warping.
And, as Julian said, wrong torque on the wheel bolts can do it.
My pulsating brakes took a long time to smoke out. First I found that the
rear right disc was warped. Took it off, put it in a lathe and took off
1/10 mm on both sides. Good as new. But pulsation continued. In the end
I had checked all discs twice.
Two weeks later I did a repack of the front left wheel-bearing. When I
took the hub off, I found that the hub seal was letting out some grease,
which got distributed on the inside of the brake disc, and being burned
into a layer of charcoal. Not a pretty sight. Cleaned the disc,
pulsation gone. Next step: Change the seal.
