Hi Guys
Do all our diesel cruiser engines rev higher when cold or am I losing it
again. I have stopped taking my tablets for a while but I still think mine
revs higher when cold.

John Byrne a ?crit :
you may have the automatic cold "choke", its a cylinder located on the
side of the injection pump, with two cooling water ports that pushes the
idle set screw bracket forward, depending on the coolant temperature.
On of my LJs has this system, the other doesn't.
On the HDJs there may even be a couple of additionnal high idle devices
for A/C, power steering and who knows what... ;o)

Hi John,
Yours may well do, but it shouldn't really.
However when you take into account the engine vibration/low tickover issues
you have it is difficult to say what is going on.
If we have time when you come over I will have a look at it.

Since I tuned the AC idle setting I notice mine does that to, before
the screww was just to loose to change the engine rpm. When cold or
when the AC kicks in it idles at about 950 rpm, when hot it idles at
about 650 rpm. When hot and the front is much higher than the back
(stopping in the middle of a steep hill) revs go down to 500 rpm or
slightly less. If this is a feature or a bug I was hopping someone
could tell me. ;-)

Hopefully on his way to Morocco I'll be 2000 km away from wife and
daughters Hurray !!!

I haven't looked in the manual to find the correct name for it but both
our 80's (93&94) have factory cold start devices on the pump that raise
the revs till warm.
Best regards,
Jon.
