France & Spain Route Recommendations please

We'll be getting the Eurotunnel over and will arrive in Calais for about 0300 (3am). We plan on travelling South on the A16 but will likely need to grab a few hours sleep within about an hour or two of Calais. Does anyone have a recommendation?

Sorry for the lack of a response recently but we are up to our eyes trying finish a refurb of the 40. But today we had a day off and did a coach trip to the Cala Alto Observatory. In a couple of days I will post full info, including website info, and our observations about the route to it including a nearby campsite. I'll also look at you question re the C13.

Apologies for the delay.

Regards,

Rodger

C13 v C14: We used the C13 from Tremp to Lleida - nice run then from Llieda the C12 to Tortosa. We did not use AP7 but joined E15/A7 at Benicola via A340.

Calar Alto:
Near Calar Alto is a campsite - Las Menas de Seron - about 8-10kms . LMdS is a historic site as it is an abandoned mining area and the campsite is inside the area. It looks ok and gets excellent reviews. Our coach trip stopped off at the ruins so we had a nosy at the campsite. Interesting place, some ruins, some restoration, plenty of walks and there is, apparently, a 4x4 route.
Neither Calar Alto nor LMdSeron are commercialised in any way - no gift shops and very few restrictions.
The road from Gergal to CA took the coach 1.5 hours - don't think he got out of 3rd! - 30kms and climbs nearly 2,000 meters.
Looking at your route, you could leave the N340a just before Tabernas (A349) heading for Velefique (AL3102) Take the AL5407 at Bacares right onto AL1178 and c/site is 2kms. Calar Alto is back down AL1178 and right onto AL4404. (CA is at 2300 meters / 7000 feet and can be cold - was 12 yesterday while Gergal was 26.
CA brochure is below and their website is worth a visit.

Alternatively you could pick up the Seron road near Lorca and the climb into the Sierra de Fibares but that's not a route we've done.

Hope this helps.

Rodger
