Hi all!

So, I have been posting away on the TLOC forum ... and then was alerted to this forum. So, here I am!

Your name: Sheelah - although most of my posting I tend to go by African GirlChild (so may you have seen me already!)

Your Cruiser: A blue one? Seriously, though, a 1995 80 series. 156K miles on the clock.

Mods on your Cruiser: It has had some mechanical refresh (bash plates, OME shocks, change to 12V starter motor ...) but hubby will be the one with the details. Building the interior ourselves.

Plans for your Cruiser: "Making dreams come true" plans. We are driving from UK to Nordkapp (northern most tip of Europe mainland) and then down through Europe to Spain. Cross into Morocco and then down the west coast of Africa to Cape Agulhas (southern most tip of Africa). We plan to celebrate Christmas with my family in Cape Town in 2013.

4x4 Experience: Alps in August 2011. Zambia November 2010 (not our vehicle).

I have a weekly preparation journal which dates back to 1st Jan 2012. I update it weekly on our blog and also various forums. I plan to add here too! (You may have seen it already ...)

Our departure is 7th October 2012 from the Adventure Overland Show - straight to the ferry in Harwich!

I hope that you enjoy following our preparation, and then our adventure itself. Maybe you'll be inspired to follow your own dream - however big or small it is.

kind regards,

I hope so! We are into the final weeks of preparation now ... a pity I didn't find out earlier, but better late than never!

Excellent!

Yes! Looked like you had a magic trip!! Lots of good resources in there ... I need to check the wild camping in France parts. We went for a pleasant mix of activites too. To us, it seemed criminal to be in the Alps in summer and NOT do any mountain biking or hiking! Biked Alpes d'Huez for a full day - brilliant! Also did some quieter riding in Chamonix. Hiked in other parts (need to check the map). One was about an hour down the valley from Val d'Isere. Again, truly fantastic day.

Yip - extra oil is the solution. ;)

I'll add my prep journal this evening ...

kind regards

Well you took your time coming didn't you !

Any way, good to have you here, really.

However, you do realise, nothing is true until we see the pictures ?

yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, ok, on the dark side you did some rambling on, but now you have to do it all for real.

Great! Hopefully you'll get some tips from us. We are going up through Sweden, and then coming down slowly through Norway ... although, I realise now that it will be a lot cooler than I previously consciously interpreted, so this South African is going to have to toughen up a bit!!

Quick glance - it looks like you had an amazing trip!! Wow! Not sure we had expected potential snow storms, but after Norway it should all be par for the course!! :o

I'll have a good read and pick up some great tips!

I thought there might be some "penalty" for joining the party a bit late ... ;)

Latest journal - including pic! - to be posted later ... check out "Trip and Trip Reports" for the update!

aaahhh ... that would be telling ;)

Maybe I'll just add it to my growing list of forums for the last 5 weeks until we depart ...

Hi Sheela,,, again,,
Any way, all said and done,
You must have been feeling a bit lost and lonely on the other forum?
I am sure you will have lots of fans here, that's for sure.
The thing is, a lot of us will have a look on the other side, but never really post.

So we have heard about you, that's for sure.
But we haven't seen you.
So, with out any messing around, no side stepping, no excuses, post some pics.
.
If you look near the bottom, there is an easy way to upload.
Just careful the sizes.

Then the avatar size here can only be 90 x 90 pix.
So in the custom size box, put 90 and 90
PR5.jpg[/attachment:2nz8qrtf]
Then load your picture like this, if you load it from your desktop, it will put the resized picture on your desktop with the sizes in the file name .

PR6.jpg[/attachment:2nz8qrtf]
.
So I look on my desktop and find the resized picture, with the 90 x 90 in the file name

Then open your user control panel on Land Cruiser
Then click to open Profile
Then click to open Edit Avatar
Then go to your Photobucket where you uploaded your resized avatar.
PR8.jpg[/attachment:neiuhvls]
.
Then copy the direct link.
.
PR9.jpg[/attachment:neiuhvls]
.
Then paste it into the open box.
Click submit.
If all is well then that's done.

For them who want to re size a whole folder of camera sized photos, Pixresixer is so easy.

In the folder where you have say 200 images, of say 4000 x 3000 pix, each file about 3,8 meg, then this takes forever to upload to any site.
Then the site only reduces them any way.
So better, easier and faster to reduce them on your PC first, then upload just the reduced sized photos.
In my pictures folder where my images are, I have loads of other "daily or event" folders.
I create a folder in that original folder, and simply call that folder "Red", lazy for reduced.

Then going back to this.
.
BF2.jpg[/attachment:1kl5qabt].
.
Then select "work with multiple files"
.

Work with multiple files
Then get this.
The difference is you get to chose where to put the reduced sized pictures.
.
PR10.jpg[/attachment:1ejht5wt]
.
Click "source" and get this
.
BF11.jpg[/attachment:1ejht5wt]
.
Look for your folder that contains your photos, and the new folder you made called "red"
.
BF12.jpg[/attachment:1ejht5wt]
.
If I select Earl, then click OK.
.
BF13.jpg[/attachment:1ejht5wt]
.
Same with Destination,
Go to the new folder you made in your folder containing the photos.
.
BP14.jpg[/attachment:1ejht5wt]
.
Click OK.
.
Select the new size you want, by double clicking in the box where it says 600, (600 is teh default) I some times reduce to 800, but most forums work good with 600
.
BF15.jpg[/attachment:1ejht5wt]
.
Then click "save pictures"
.
BF16.jpg[/attachment:1ejht5wt]
.
Job done in seconds.
If you want small data file, you can "unclick" the box called "save EXIF data"
This makes the reduced files also a little smaller - data size.
