Welcome to the forum, Frits!

Quick question about your 80 - I see you mention R15 Goodyears, which presumably are play tyres. Obviously your 96/7 model accepts 15" rims ok?
The UK never really got a GX model in an 80 - the lower spec to a VX here is a GS, which still has most of the modcons (permanent 4x4, 3x difflocks, A/C in most cases, e/windows, disc brakes all round etc etc) but cloth seats. Anyway, the UK 80s switched to the bigger brakes around 92/3 so pretty much all 80s here from that time on came with 16" rims.

Cheers,

Andrew,

I used white epoxy rims with those 15" tyres. I did have to grind off about 2mm from the front brake calipers to get them on. Even then, when driving loose terrain, I often end up with a horrible noise when gravel gets stuck between the rim and caliper. I would not know how 15" mags would fit.

I have since resorted to the 16" OEM rims, as I kept on buckling the white epoxy rims on the Namibian drifts. I guess the 900kg rating of the rims is for smooth road only ;) I have yet to experience any problems with the OEM rims - they are excellent.

 Ah ok, that explains it! Same concept as the guys on 120s wanting to run 16" rims and grinding the calipers down a bit. Not that it matters but do you run OEM steelies or alloy rims?

Cheers,

Welcome Frits - hope you have fun, and don't laugh at the weather here - hope you're getting some great diving done in Papua!

Cheers

Gary

Ecky, I apologise for the S'êfriken English ;)[/quote:y2y1eibz]
It was nothing to do with your English, which is superb by the way.
It was the post itself and all the tech speak  Yeah I know, I'm hopeless.
