Hi guys
Just wanted to know your thoughts on what a guy told me yesterday.
I should be running my cruiser on a 50/50 mixture of veg oil from tesco and
keresene from my home heating oil tank. He said much better for the engine
and of course the environment.
cheers

John,
If someone that you don't know told you to run the truck on
carrot juice, would you listen? Heating oil has no lubrication for the
pump and veg. oil has too much glycerine in that will damage your
engine. It is also illegal to run a vehicle on heating oil, tax
evasion. You can use veg oil but you need to turn it into biodiesel
first, a complex chemistry.
Regards, Clive.

Hi Clive
Thanks
No not at all, carrot juice is way too expensive even in LIdl, sure you know
I would not even change or replace anything without first seeking the
permission of the elite experts on the list.
I may ask a lot of questions, now I did say maybe, but I usually get answers
that i either thought would be what I think or ones that just give me vital
info to make that informed decision.
See the problem is im always on the hunt for things but most of the time I
need to check with yourselves .I know its a sad miserable existence but one
day I hope to qualify to a higher plain of existence, in about 40 years or
so with my wheel chair strapped to my cruiser as an accessorie.

Hi John,
You can actually run your 80 on pretty well 100% veg oil with little or no
modification as Jon Wildsmith does. In actual fact Diesel engiens were
originally developed to run on veg oil by Mr Diesel.
The biggest problem with Veg oil is that the glycerene causes waxing that can
block filters, etc, however if you pre-heat the veg oil before feeding it into
the engine you can avoid the problems, although I understand that this isn't
necessary with the 80 series engine.
There is a stack on info on the web about such things, take a look at:
http://biodiesel.infopop.cc/eve/ubb.x?a=cfrm&s=447609751&f=898605551 - some
handy forums on the subject.
http://www.dieselveg.com/ - a company that does conversion kits so cars can run
on veg oil.
http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/introduction.html - some good general info.
http://www.wnbiodiesel.com/ - the singer Willie Nelson's site on the subject.
As Clive has pointed, whilst running on SVO (straight vegetable oil) may be
cheaper, you should be paying your government the duty on the amount you use,
since in most countries the tax on fuel applies to the fuel that goes into the
vehicle regardless of the type, although I believe that there are different
rates for different types. Having said that I doubt most people running SVO in
their cars admit it to the Chancellor.
One day we might have an enlightened government that will be willing to charge
a significantly reduced tax, but I doubt it.
I personally run 100% Biodiesel made from WVO (Waste Veg Oil) from
http://www.goodfuels.co.uk/ although Andrew is looking into producing it from
Oil Seed Rape, etc and is talking to local farmers to sort out a supply source.
