HELP - Removal / testing fuel sender unit

Looks like it could be inside the boot behind the trim of the left rear. Could be up just under the window line. A bit further in than just behind the tail light cluster. This is my best guess as it’s not overly clear.
 
So after talking to lots of people on lots of forums it turns out that this is a known, and common, fault on earlier models. Later models had a revised dashboard that contained a diode which prevented spikes from the solenoid coming back up the line and blowing the combination meter.

Apparently in the early days Toyota would change the dashboard for you, but they won't anymore. A new dashboard is something like £600, so I think i'll chuck in a new VDO gauge and sender.
