How to remove plastic panels in boot?

My reverse sensors are constantly beeping when in reverse. Unfortunately I don't have a switch to turn it off. Toyota wants $$$ just to take a look and I'm pretty sure they will just come back with sorry but you have to replace the unit and its gonna cost even more $$$.

So I want to find it and disable it if possible. How does one get the plastic panels off in the boot area, especially the big sides that holds the area for the jack (as that's where the unit is supposed to be located).

I have tried to clean and check the sensors but couldn't find anything obvious ... Any help appreciated! :?

Find the speaker and just place a switch in the wires to it , thats what i did .

Fairly straight forward. But before you take anything apart. Give the sensors a really good clean - they've been known to be sensitive to water and dirty- and a tow hitch too, so take that off if fitted.

And it'll be easier to take the bumper off - remove the screws on top and underneath, and below the wings, then it just. unclips and can be taken off ...

Thanks Gary, I'll give that a go first. Approximately how long will it take to remove the bumper ...? And I don't have a towbar at the moment.

If you just want to switch off the sensors, there is a plug in the loom just above where your jack sits. A bit fiddly, but you can def reach it. That's all I did to disable mine when I fitted the steel rear bumper.

Hi Andrew, I had a look there but nothing, even removed the jack mount. Toyota said that some reverse sensors has a switch and others don't. That's why they wanted to charge me a lot of money to find it / inspect it. Also reason why I want to know how to remove the panels, hopefully I'll find something I can disconnect / remove (or maybe even fix). But I'll have a go at removing the bumper first. Then if that doesn't make any difference I'll start by removing all the panels to get to it.

The bumper skin removal should only take 30 minutes or so the first time once you know where everything is its a lot quicker the next time! Don't forget to unplug the rear fog light globes.

If you need to uncoil the trim, best buy yourself a set of trim removal tools on eBay for about £5 - they're plastic levers and hooks that help prevent you breaking any clips (inevitable that some will break though!)

Check the wires under the bumper. Mine did this when they got snagged and unclipped. 20 seconds and was fixed.
