Hello

I have recently got a 1991 HZJ75 Troop carrier. I plan on doing a few mods and converting back for camping trips. I was thinking about putting some Hzj80 genuine alloys on the troop carrier. Does anyone know if they will fit?

It is non turbo. Whats the best way to get a bit more power from it climbing hills? Will fitting extractors and side exit exhuast help?

Thanks in advance!!

Cheers
Roy

I don't know if your 75 has or not but the later one's are 5 stud and the 80 is 6 stud

75 series leaf spring are six stud, 78 series coil front end are 5 stud.

Its 6 stud, but im not sure if the drums or callipers will obstruct the wheel.

A turbo kit will help you climb the hills. I fitted a BIT-turbo from http://www.all-american.nl in Holland. Installation is not too difficult and the difference, even with a moderate 0,5 bar is remarkable.
If you give all american a ring they will be happy to advice you about the rims. They only do landcruiser.

Extractors make a big diffrence, ask Barrie from waypoint tours, fitted a set to his a few years back and he loves them. If you want turbo kit then speak to Maarten at All American Imports, we have fitted quite a few of his kits and they are very good

You can get about 6-7 hp from extractors and a freer flowing exhaust and you need to turn the fuel up a LITTLE bit.

I got sunraysia wheels on mine, they work well in wet mud compared to standard alloys,,,not as much clogging,,,
As for climbing hills, I usually drop a gear or two

Fitted Genie extractors. Really happy with them. Also put 255/85/16 on genuine 80 alloys with spacers. Fells better on and off road now. Will still have to go for a straight through exhaust and wee fuel pump tweak at some stage :)

Hi Roy,

So I understand you replace the extractor with the existing set up and you just kept the existing exhaust? The end lines up?

Where did you get these, I see some on ebay in Australia at 500 AUD that can be send over, maybe that's a good idea?

Still happy with them?

Cheers,
Alex

Hi Alex

I got a genie extractors from Austraila. It has been great so far. Been on about 2 years. I then did a side exit exhaust - this freed up a bit more power too.

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers

75's can run a 15" rim, 80's need a 16" rim or they will hit the front brake caliper. Genuine 80's rims will fit the 75 with no issues. Remember is you increase the tyre size that the big girl will get more sluggish. If going greater than 33" you will need to turbo or change your diff ratios.

so how much HP would you add with the turbo from allamerican and new extractors? 10-15?

I installed the the turbo with the standard manifold. It totally converts the engine behaviour. The standard hzj drops dead with the slightest uphill. With the turbo, it just behaves like a 'normal' truck. Give Gilles from garage Lagrange in laakdal, belgium a call+32 (0) 468 22 67 68, he installed quite a few allamerican turbo's in his project trucks. http://www.garage-la-grange.be , or just call Frans at allamerican in Kaatsheuvel. Both Gilles and Frans are very helpful on the phone.
Btw, Rocco from http://www.wheels-unlimited.nl in Beesd, Holland did a testdrive in my turboed hzj75. His comment after the drive : "I could easily get used to this..."
Thats what the turbo does, it makes the hzj a fun truck to drive.

Awesome. What kind of mileage do you get?

12-14 liters/100km road use with max speed of 110 kph on the motorways.
30 liters/100km sahara dune use.
some extra power is always nice :

Thanks firewout, i might look into that at some point. I have a 24 valve 80 and love the output from that. The troopy goes pretty well, but could certainly do with a wee bit more power when it comes to hills.
