I need some help again please. Bought an imported 1992 80 - converted to manual, with intercooler, mileage about 138k. Was told it smokes when started. Did not see any smoke when i tested it. I drove it up from England to Scotland (done about 500 miles since purchase) and it now smokes a lot, has oil in intercooler pipe - looks like white smoke with maybe a bit of blue. The smoke has a strong smell of fuel and burns your eyes. I got a reconditioned injector pump with the sale. I cannot see any glow plug light coming on at all.

My thinking was to for a start replace the timing belt and whilst im there fit the injector pump since i dont want to end up with valve issues as well and then move to the next step whatever it may be. Do i need any special tools? Any suggestions to get to the bottom of the issue?

might be worth checking the timing of the pump that's already fitted before you swap pumps, and that the timing belt pulleys line up with their timing marks correctly.
