Hi List,
I started my Land Bruiser (as my kids call it!) and set off for a client
visit. After approx 10 miles I noticed the engine note change for a second
or too and then normalised. A few miles later it did it again but this time
for a minute or so. The engine would become much louder and loose power,
would rev over 1200-1400 rpm. Then it would normalise again and work fine.
The third time it did it the EML came on and I broke into a sweat! The
engine sounded as if the timing was very very advanced and the diesel
detonation was very loud like when you fit a timin gbelt and it is a notch
or two out. Luckily there was a Toyota garage just round the corner from my
client so i pulled in, typically I couldn't get it to go wrong so I left it
with them. few hours later I got a call saying the Air Temp sensor was
faulty and was detecting the air temperature to be minus 40 degrees. It kind
of made sense when he told me the fault. The ECU thought it was at the north
pole. The part required is a T89424-60010 costing =A360.
I just wanted to run this by you guys to find out if anyone else had
experienced this problem and weather I should sleep peacefully?
TIA
