Landcruiser insurance rip-off

No, I don't want to insure Concord, just my old FJ62 Landcruiser......
'89 Landcruiser, no problem, sir. From South Africa - WHAT!!! OHMYGOD!! No
sir, can't insure that....
My AA renewal is nearly seven hundred quid. I understand that regardless of
it's age it can cause a lot of damage if it hits something, but come on....
I thought it was the drivers who perpetrated the insurance scams, not the
companies.
Any suggestions?
Neill Watson

Having a rotten claims history and some points, as I do, I shoppped around
quite a bit before I last renewed for my FZJ80. The cheapest I found wasactually Tesco.com - but I've heard the service is a bit iffy if you actually
need to make a claim...
It's all online, so worth a 5 minute check.
Cheers - Andy
No

Andy,
Out of interest, is your LC modified in any way, and if so did you tell Tesco?

Don't know about mods - mines standard apart from the Colways. I suppose the
rate the terrorists are blowing them up at, they're becoming a bit rare. Did
you see what all the militia are riding around in in Sudan?
A guy who's kids go to the same school as mine is working in Basra, Iraq.
One of the Brit contractors left a brand new Landcruiser near the main gate
while he went off to do some work. They blew it up.....
And all I want is my FJ62 insuring - no semtex alarm systems.

Hi Neill,
I had endless problems insuring my last 80 ('93 HDJ80 VX), because they
kept on thinking that it was an import.
Eventually did a deal with a QuoteDirect broker for about ?460 per year
(from memory) fully comp. That was with a clean license, garaged, no
mods, alarm and Tracker.
LCs are one of the most regularly stolen 4x4s globally which doesn't
help. (Always check the provenance of any LC you are considering
buying, because some stolen ones have been imported to the UK and I
have come across a couple of people who have caught out by this.)
Following on from Roman's question, I would also be interested to know
the insurers reactions to any modifications.

I'm fully comp with NIG via SecureDirect (08703667285) and paid =A3520
last time around. They know about all my modifications but I've not had
to claim from them. I did have a Honda Civic write itself off quite
badly by tangling with it but as it was their fault and there was no
damage to my motor there wasn't a lot for my insurers to do.
That's with a clean license and full no claims.
Best regards,
Jon.
