Julian, just one small note.
Mid/North Wales is a good idea, with no problem. I don't know all the
area really well, though appreciate that we do have some members on
the south and others with holiday properties there; but advise you
only plan routes with the close advice and co-operation of local
off-roaders, even LR owners ;o)
There are a lot of very large landowners up there who are still in
the dark ages regarding their attitude to 'the public'. The local
aristos and large landowners are not the same as those in the
Pennines, the Lakes or Northumberland who are more welcoming.
As an example I strongly advise that you steer clear of any land
owned by the large Bodnant estate which is both sides of the river
Conwy along the A470 (known locally as Lord Aberconwy's estate). Like
others, their landholding is not in a ring fence and they own other
land at higher altitude towards Snowdon. If they find off-roaders on
green lanes - despite their right to be there - their actions might
be considered extreme! FWIW
