LAR 4x4

Just a thought Mick , all marine engines are Frankenstein creations of mix and match but to a marine engineer they are all the same .

What i mean is if you can find a marine engine place they would likely see your engine problem as a minor nuisance to be remedied .

Specialist generally means familiar with which in turn means we have swapped parts like for like many times .

I have started a discussion on a major rust repair job on a '96 lc80 with him, so far seems straightforward and helpful. I was just delayed on committing by fear of the unknown, so any feedback from the forum would certainly help me also.

I am in the middle of using them, rust treatment on the 80 plus some other issues.
They are very busy, so will be interesting to see how they do!
Based in London so was very keen to find someone local who knows Toyota LCs and means I don’t have to drive over to Hereford!!

Ronaldo, in the event Mick doesn't see your post, have a look in 90 series, Engine rebuild advice needed, where this originated.
There's a short update with more to follow.

@Ronaldo60 My Collie passed its MOT after being off the road just shy of a year. Its been with LAR4x4 since April and Adam is adding some bar protection under the sills, hopefully I'll be able to bring her home very soon. Not cheap but basically a near full engine rebuild plus sort rear diff lock and other bits.

This place looks interesting and in Eastbourne, not far from me. Was looking at their Black diamond brake upgrades on 100s. I am due for brake upgrades but gathering info and courage to do myself for now.
Did anyone use these brakes? They are cheaper than DBA

Thanks for the reply and update, sounds good, i left mine over mid july for rust, seats, gearbox, etc etc, looking forward to be able to pass a NCT (MOT) test again!

Very local to me..... I may have to pop in and see them...

She's back. Wow, didn't think I would miss driving the old bus so much. Engine rebuilt from a reconditioned 1KZ Hilux and original 1KZ lump by LAR4x4 down in Sussex. Seems strange to have to 'run in' a 24-year old vehicle :grinning: Had some new side steps made by them while in the shop, oh well its only money.... the VAT hurt more than anything :sob:

I never understood VAT concept. Why is it there and why people remind us about Vat on every bill instead of just telling us total bill

Great news Mick, glad it's sorted and you're back on board.
A lot of money shelled out, and in some cases wasted, not of your making, but you now have experience to pass on as to what fits what, and another recommended buisness/repairer.

They remind you so you know what they really charged. That extra 20% of the bill is not going in their pocket but to hmrc.
