Leaking a/c

Hello all
Not quite as problematic as John's latest problems - hope it gets sorted by
the way John but I'm just after a small piece of info.
I've noticed oil or something on the front of my rad, bottom left as I look
towards the windscreen with the bonnet open. It is coming from a pipe union
just above the ambient temperature sensor at the bottom left of the rad. I
confirmed this by running the car with full a/c for about 20 minutes and
watched it bubbling and frothing.
2 questions. Is this refrigerant or oil... Looks and feels like it might be
compressor oil. And secondly, this pipe comes from the top of the
compressor, then through in fron of the rad and then takes a 90 degree turn
to go back behind the rad presumably to the condenser. Its this 90 degree
join that leaks. I've checked the tightness etc but it still leaks so my
question is, eventually... Does anyone know if this is a gasket oor can it
be sealed with something else. I've just the system re gassed so will have
to take it back to get it drained but wondered about this seal.
Thanks
Jeremy

Thanks Reno. Yes, it is on 134. It was supposed to have been leak tested
when it was done...

It's both. The oil is in with the refrigerant and thusly circulates thru the system.

I've heard a few times that any shop that refills AC systems is bound by EU law to purge your system and check it for leaks before they refill it. So they should have found that leak, and should be amenable to refilling your system for free after the leak is fixed. In any case, your AC recharge is likely fritos and needs to be redone after the leak is fixed.
I assume you've converted to R-134 so at least you're not paying 400+ Euros for an R-12 recharge. Then again an R-12 recharge lasts quite a few years, while R-134 seems to slither out the slightest little microscopic holes and requires refilling almost every 2 years. But I digress and am showing my age.
