Well eventually, I seem to have secured a unit, locally. It's not as big as I'd have liked and it's not as cheap as I'd have liked but it's very secure and only about 10 mins away with no traffic issues. Big enough easily for a cruiser with the doors and tailgate open. Haven't measured it up yet, but it's about 11' wide and about 20' long. Thereabouts. I can put racking in and probably hand stuff from the very high roof. Lighting and power inside although only one tube so I'll need to boost that a bit. Good thing is I have mates either side who build off roaders. Certainly big enough to work on with the door closed and a heater on with the radio keeping me company. Concrete floor. Even just for an oil change it means I am off the drive at last. Once I am in I can measure up better and start to move things in. I don't want to move my whole operation up there. Just the stuff that's in my way and have enough tools and equipment to work on something if I need to without dragging an entire workshop back and forth each time. Certainly good enough to over-Winter an 80 to keep the worst off. Mind you, it's going to be perishing up there.

Nice place to store an adventure trailer.....

Hope so. Just means I have some flexibility. Just have to make sure it doesn't get so stuffed full that I need to find more storage.

My trailer will dictate the height of my garage because i want to store it vertical resting on the tailgate , something you might want to consider when deciding the overall length of yours .

Height isn't an issue Shayne. Unit next door has a four post ramp in it. They're farm buildings. I could stand the 80 on its bumper and still not be able to reach the apex if I stood on it. I could easily drive the ruck in with the roof tent set up. Which is another nice thing. I can always sleep up there if needs be, in the tent, indoors. Handy for keeping it aired and dry.

Nice one.
I was gutted when had to move out of the unit I had. It makes life so much easier having one.

Nice one Chris.

Its easy to fill an area regardless how big it is ....

....followed by hypothermia and a lingering death. It's on the moors.

Karl, actually it looks like the same person buit your unit and mine. Same style exactly. Great big steel door that blows about in the wind. Just not so big inside.

Better than being out in the rain mate. You will be like a pig in shxt.

Just a quich question though, why not build a nice big double garage at yours? Heating, four poster etc etc etc

To be honest Karl, that's the big plan. Getting somewhere to put stuff is sort of part of that. We can then look at what we might build. You know our place, what sort of money would that be. Err not the four post ramp. Just an extension high and long enough to get a cruiser in with some walls moved about inside. Missus thinks it's telephone numbers.

What you thinking a garage on the lawn to the right of the property looking form the roadside?

Building work does cost and you always have the mess to have to live with/around. Just thought you may have gone down that route at yours.

We thought we'd extend straight out from the current garage including the porch. Then pinch a bit of the garage inside to extend the kitchen. I'd end up with a decent wide end for the vehicle and the rest would be a workshop. Inside the garage is already dwelling spec if I can call it that. Double wall, insulated etc. You could brick up the garage door and turn it into a room. Some people already have done that. As there is a pitched roof over the front, we can can go quite high with the ridge line and have storage over head too. Great for outdoors kit etc. Just ned an architect and a builder and someone who knows planning. We had an outline plan a few years ago and the planning dept said yes but not to double story. There is a limit to how much I'd want to put into this house.

Good luck selling the house Chris.
I expect the neighbours will be moving back in.

Not sure that would make any sense even if I were selling my house. Which I am not. But thanks anyway Frank.

A stand alone garage would probably reduce the price considerably , obviously i've never seen your house but i wondered if the existing garage could be reduced in size to extend the kitchen making enough room for a separate building . Just a blind suggestion offered because often once a plan has taken shape its hard to see alternatives .

Just a joke Chris, as in you spending all your time in your unit.

Good luck with it.

Oh sorry Frank. With you now. Thing is it's the neighbours who are actually moving. It's true they are. Thought you must have been looking on Zoopla!
