After 14 years of 1.6 mbs including months of 0 mbs due to broken wires the broadband failed again yesterday. Back on now and I thought it was quick so I did a check. Now 2.6 mbs. No doubt I'll pay later.

From a wireless device (my Ethernet connected devices are somewhat quicker :) )

Frank you need to change supplier - you're being ripped off...

I'm about the same as Frank here, sometimes just a little quicker. No fibre optic option available.

got to admit 100 mbps is more that enough for what i need in this house, and i only got that because free upgrade

No need to be reliant on copper line - speak to your mobile provider - Vodaphone for example have a really nice home broadband option....

Ping 211 , download 4.66Mb/s , upload 3.72Mb/s from Plusnet's cheapest deal in South Wales and its plenty good enough for me though Openreach will visit again today because connection keeps dropping , maybe he should have changed both wires at the telegraph pole when he visited last month :icon-rolleyes:

It looks like, from map coverage supplied by some suppliers, that I am in an area with good 3G and 4G coverage. How much is a typical cost. I don't think Tiscali, my provider, does either.

Have a look at 3, Frank. They offer 4g at no extra cost over 3G and they are Hutchison Telecom. What orange was originally.

I have a 3 SIM in a mobile hotspot. Something they offer which I don't think the other networks do is their bundled data and minutes can also be used while roaming in many countries including most of Europe. Might be useful, might not.

Had to try it after reading these posts, I'm at lunch at the moment

No complaints....

Not mobile but interesting never the less the openreach engineer (who could find no faults) having convinced himself i will not upgrade to fibre optic simply because the service i pay for doesn't work as it should , went back to his van and returned with some sort of fancy swr meter detected interference on my line and so replaced the month old openreach box with another that he says should narrow the signal and filter out the problem ?

When I’ve had problems in the past, if cleaning corrosion off the contacts (which go green quite quickly here, please use gold contacts BT), didn’t improve things, a new filter has helped, they only seem to last a few years in arid Wales. ADSL Nation do good ones. I’ve now got one of their master sockets with a built in filter which is mounted in a waterproof box and things have been fine for quite a while.

Thanks for help.

Worse than ever now = intermittent so I am halfway through ordering a clock part on a huge catalogue and I get cut off. I resort to the telephone after having remembered the 78 digit part number then find the phone is off !!

No mobile signal at home and a download from 0.4 to 1.9 Meg. Yawn. Can't watch Facebook video
