message/subject line conventions

Alan,
Good idea and great if everyone can subscribe to the same rules.
This is a bugbear of mine especially on other lists where often as the
message gets replied to the meaning/subject changes from the origonal topic
but the heading does not. If everyone used common sense and just checked the
heading b4 they they hit SEND then that would be great.
This is often a big issue in that some the great knowledge is buried deep in
a message has no relation to the heading!

OK I sympathise with Steve here, I have a KZJ70 and 99% of the list
traffic is J80 biased. In a previous life I subscribed to an MR2 list
where many people had the same problem, we adopted the convention where
if the message concerned things specific to the Mk1 MR2, the writer
prefixed the subject line with [MK1], similarly with [MK2] and [MK3], if
the subject was thought to be of interest to all, no prefix was added.
This makes it very simple to use the rules in almost any mail reader to
filter out unwanted postings.
I would suggest then that we could use [J40], [J60], [J70] and [J80] as
prefixes for the subject line in this list - then everyone still get all
posts but Steve (and I) can bin any posts that are marked as J80 specific.
I think if Steve created a UK J40 specific list, he'd be there himself,
I wouldn't be much better off if I started a J70 list. Anyway this list
was for all UK LC owners, not just J80s.

Brendan,
Could the process be automated at the mail server end?

Roman,
Anything can be automated but huge difference between u glancing at a
message and knowing exactly the category u'd put it in and some of the
keywords u'd classify it under.
Not really an option but more relevant for searching and having an archive
that could be categorised under different options. So I'd vote unlikely.
Julian will pipe up if he says any 'easy' way but 4 me its down to some
common sense.
A defined 'protocol' or agreed keyword/classification codes would be great
but requires a manual effort on everyone's behalf. It can become easy to use
and 2nd nature if u use it often enough.
I certainly change my msgs on 80scool when relevant (e.g. (UK) (CO/USA 4x4
trip) (chat) etc.)

seat covers

Hi Lal
I have been thinking of seat covers to brighten up the cruiser a bit now
that the idea of new wheels is nearly gone out of my head. I seen some nice
wheels but they dont deliver to europe just my luck. Any way before I start
going on again, I was wondering if you know of any sheep skin seat cover
guys over there that would be good and reasonable. I have done my searches
and a lot seem to be in the states. I think some thing to do with being a
rich country. Would you believe I cant find one place here that does good
covers.

Hi There guys
I think It would be a good idea to sub devide the messages for those that do
not have our 80s. The list will get bigger over time because it is good. I
know for one I would like to know how many members there are and what the
vehicles are they drive, and then maybe it would give an idea what the needs
are of all the members are. You can all tell me to shag off if you want,
wont be the first time. I just think that the opportunity is there to make
this even better than it is already is. Thats hard to do but I know there is
always room for improvement and a new challange. Sorry its easy for me to
say when I know even less about computers and lists etc than I do about
cruisers but ideas are ideas. As I have said before I cant wait to see this
site up and running to see all the good useful posts set out into proper
catagories and then mine of course in a special catagorie of its own some
where in the bowels of the hidden icons with a danger sticker , ENTER AT

You're so self-effacing! just like me....
I think maybe another list member may have an idea about constructing
and developing a web site. This site of Julians was set up for 80s, but
not exclusively so, in my understanding.
Anybody else out there who has the time and energy for constructing a
new web site? it could have links to 80s and ih8mud.com, and 80sCool,
this way poor Julian won't be overworked 'til he drops! :) I'd do it
myself but I don't even have a site for moi as yet, well, not completed
as yet.

Hi There
You must have eaten a dictionary for breakfast. The wheels issue as always boils down to money and the practical side of things aswell , as per the list advice that I have received. Bigger wheels are costly and the tyres are more expensive too, on an ongoing basis. The wheels that I would like are always just that bit too much and then when I nearly decide to get them , the company do not deliver to europe. Nice one decision made for me move on, didnt want them anyway ha. Im always trying to find ways to make the cruiser a bit different then others but way it up all the time being so practical.

Hi John,
I agree with you whole heatedly. Would it not be an easy matter to have a
different forwarding address for each group so that people with 80s and
those with other cruisers do not have to wade through what may be irrelevant
for there respective vehicle. As the group grows and grows and if it
remains as it is, it become cumbersome and people will leave, I think the
easiest way forward is to divide into vehicle types. Personally I am only
interested in 80Landcruisers and not all the rest of them unless it is
directly relevant. To make this the biggest Landcruiser site on the
universe may well be counter productive.
