Can someone please tell me how to use this damn thing to find a 12v wire i have tried every setting every which way and my truck battery reads 0000 on every setting :angry-screaming:

Stick the dial on 20 (on click above where it is in the photo)
Red cord in the right
Black cord in the middle.

If that doesn't work the multimeter is broken

I guess i should know better mess with things i hate when my hearts not in it and its pissing down . Something will go right today and i will not give up until it does !
 
Make sure the Hold button is not pressed. It will make the display hold whatever reading there is, e.g. 0000.
 
Good call ... Kind of looks like a mechanical switch.

Hold button was the culprit but having never used one before i didn't realize it until Grant told me to use the settings i had started with :doh:it took me a whole 30 seconds to find a permanent live in the dash once i got it working so it was well worth the tenner i paid for in screwfix .
