Greetings from Sunny South Africa.
Recently picked up my first Land Cruiser in the form of an 80 series 1HD-T VX Auto. Imported from the UK in ‘99 it has spent most of it’s life living the African dream, the last 8 years of which were in a garage in Suburban Johannesburg.
We picked up the truck earlier in March and have since driven across South Africa to its new home in Cape Town, with an extra COVID-19 induced isolation trip to the Eastern Cape (all in all 2200miles since I picked it up on Friday 13th March).
So far, there is a decent to-do list on the cards already:
1. Transfer case has a slight leak that needs fixing
2. CDL not engaging (think it’s sensor related)
3. Front axle rebuild on the cards
Then onto whatever else is uncovered after that.
Mod wise, the goal is to turn it into a full overland truck. The first task on the list is an undercarriage water tank, pump, heat exchanger (bought all the material to get this started during our lockdown but have been roped into household DIY and a surprisingly busy work schedule.
Will add some pics once I have the required street cred
Looking forward to learning and sharing ideas with all of the DIY gurus on this forum.
Cheers,
Sean.
