So.....earlier this year I finished my overland build for a trip to Namibia and Botswana - details here

https://www.landcruiserclub.net/community/threads/my-hdj80-overland-build.150442/

Awesome trip, and since used it across UK and Europe. However, for what we want to use it for in the future it has its limitations i.e its a bit small. So, decided to do a rear chop and fit a proper living box on the back and make it into a small campervan - similar to the Maltec and similar to Paul's (AKA BAT21) build, who has been very helpful in terms of inspiration!

We returned from the Pyrenees 2 weeks ago, and just finished stripping the old conversion. So this is the build thread for part two of my overland build!

Now you see it, now you dont.

(don't even know what that means..)

Are you making/fitting out the box yourself or is it visiting deutschland?

Guy that did Pauls id making my bare box. I then go an collect it and mount and fit out myself. I have my own design of pop top to go on it too.

Definitely going to follow this thread. Maybe don’t cut the roof off in the rain next time :icon-biggrin:

yep. Very interested. This is my next project that starts soon.

Picking up the cabin next week. In the mean time Ive been doing bits and pieces like fitting the intercooler, bonnet scoop, welding a frame to support the sub tank and then making a little roof console for gauges, CB etc..

Where you getting the sub tank from ? Or are you fitting the standard 55L?

was great to see the machine and cabin "in the flesh" the other week. More than eager to see how you progress ; as next in line : )

Like the roof gauge and having cupboard/shelf space there is definitely on my list. Only seen a very small number of folks doing any mods to get a shelf (other than those Aussie guys having more options)

looks like roof is fitting good per your custom sizing.
Higher in general profile than I though but looks good
How you doing on the rear door?

great build mike, am i right in the thinking i have seen you posting an advert on Facebook looking for wings?...
