I am the very proud new owner of a 1977 HJ45 originally from Australia and made its way to UK via a period in South Africa.

Been working my way through a few tasks successfully so far but finally hit a snag and luckily stumbled across this site while trying to find a solution!

I need a new alternator as mine isn't charging the battery. Have checked all connections are sound and still nothing so had it to a local specialist and they're stumped!!

Does anyone have any suggestions for similar alternator that is available in UK that can be made to fit?

Failing that an overseas supplier who would be willing to ship to UK.

Mine is the 3.6 diesel H engine so I need 12v and vacuum pump.

Any advice appreciated.

Look forward to contributing to the forum.

David

Hello David,

Great looking truck.

Have a look at my thread from 2017 called 'over charging' although most of it refers to 60 series (2H) it may help but the nest people to talk to about your alternator are:

  • Robson & Francis Rewinds Ltd
  • Unit 9 Vale Industrial Park
  • 170 Rowan Road
  • LONDON
  • SW16 5BN.

Speak to Mike - very helpful and excellent service.

Appreciate your input, have read your post and its useful.

I'll contact Robson & ... tomorrow as looking at their website they mention full refurbishment of vintage. The specialist near me tried everything but said they couldn't get the parts so hopefully these guys will be able to refurb.

Failing that it looks like I'm in the market for a newer one and doing away with the voltage regulator.

Interestingly your post got me to check my VR up close and I've noticed my black cable looks a bit cooked!!

Hi David,

Glad to be of help.

We had years of alternator problems but since R&F did their thing and Dave2000 sorted the wiring it has been perfect.

Let us know how you get on.

Rodger

Spoken to Mike, its getting sent off to him for checking for hopeful full refurb.

Will let you know how I get on.

All sorted. Great service so am very pleased with you putting me on to them.
Have managed to track down a refurb kit for the vac pump so should be back up and running soon.

Glad that has worked out for you. They are very, very good.

To me this is what forums are about - helping like-minded folks.

So just to wrap this thread up a before and after shot.

Very impressed.

You can put an Isuzu alternator (KB280DT) in there - bolts right in and has the vacuum pump for the brakes.
