Number plate lights

I've just got my Cruiser back after having a new rear door fitted. It's the one without the spare mounted on the door. I've noticed that the rectangular number plate lights sit in an oval gap. There is therefore a sizeable gap round the number plate lights. Could someone oblige me by having a look at their rear door and see if it's the same. It just seems strange to have fresh air round the lights. It also means that there is nothing stopping any muck getting into the internal part of the door. Thanks in advance.

It's ok folks. I was in my Toyota dealers last week and asked them about the space round the number plate lights. The said it was to allow the removal of the light. Makes sense when you know the answer!
