See them on fleabay but can't work out what it's for.

If its what I think you are refering to, it is literally 'sandwiched' between the oil filter & engine via an extension type thread, & has a couple of oil cooler pipe connections on it.
This then allows you to fit an additional engine oil cooler quite simply by connecting the pipework to these 'flow & return' connections.

that's the one, they all sit there. One had pipes for water as well. Guess it is water cooled?
