I put my 4 stroke petrol Honda generator to bed in 1990. I drained the petrol and then half filled with new fuel. This thread caused me to try running it and it started on 6th pull. That's 30 year old petrol. Now here's the thing. The switch off knob does 3 things.
1 Cuts ignition.
2. Turns fuel supply off with a tap.
3. Cuts vent pipe off with a tap.
I think well sealed fuel with no oxygen supply is the best way forward.
