Old stock suspension

After having recently driven another 95 on stock suspension, I am very disappointed at how bad my stock suspension is. I am not in a position to do the upgrade that I want just yet, but I do want to try and get it a bit better. Does anyone that has done an upgrade still have their old stuff lying around? It might be better than what I have got on at the moment, which is giving quite a bumpy ride.

I to was surprised just how shot Fiery's original fit suspension really was :o I reckon it had sagged by 20mm from standard & no longer had the strength left in it to suport a load of 160Kg in the luggage area without sinking to her bump stops  But hey lets face it she'd done knocking on for 160000miles over 13years possibly on those springs :) All of the shocks had been replaced with after market Monroe ones very shortly before I bought her so the shocks were not a contributing factor to the poor suspension :) Have you had a look around for non genuine replacement springs rather than someone elses cast off's or maybe a set of spring assist air bags from Matt Savage, something that you could then use in conjunction with your new set up when it arrives.

My springs are sagging a little bit but I think my shocks / damping are more of a problem - my ride is quite harsh.

What pressure are you running your tyres @ :?: You may be able to achieve some improvement in ride quality by reducing the pressures in the interim :)

Shame that. YesterdayI sold my front shocks and spring on ebay they went for 99p. still got rear springs though but no shocks as just cut the tops of when i put my iron man on

I have been playing with various pressures from 30psi upwards - currently running 36 psi which is the best compromise between ride and fuel economy.

I saw those. If I knew they were yours I would have bid :(

I've just had the anti-roll bar & steering rack bushes replaced on my 95 and although it is a lot better there is still a fair amount of vagueness/wallowing at speed on a-roads so but i'm not sure whether to replace springs or shocks or both.Wallowing apart the ride is smooth on road & good off road - no clonks or bangs.A quick look online & your looking at about 300 quid to replace spring & shocks all round (roughtrax)

300 for stock suspension. I only paid 500 for my 2 inch iron man lift springs and shocks.

Hi Chris -

How does the ride of the Ironman compare to what you had before? I assume you have the B kit?

Cheers

Look on ebay for a firm called Premier Motor Factors, I bought a pair of Munroe Adventure 4x4 shocks for £79 delivered. Took two days to get to me. Fitted with Milners 20% uprated springs gives a firm but not harsh ride. Tows my caravan (1300kgs) nice and level with very little swaying when the lorries go past. Had to replace them as one snapped off at the top mounting. Would like to lift it with Ironman but is daily driver for other half and needs other work doing first. HTH

Cheers Steve. I looked at the Monroe kit and at Milners and Roughtrax... but I think I need new shocks and coils which would come in around £250-300. So I may as well get the Ironman kit now which I can sell again for a few quid when I upgrade for the Oz trip - I'm not sure if the Ironman suspension is up to the corrugations in Oz, so I will be fitting some Bilsteins with King springs.

I just got a quote to have the suspension fitted as well as the poly bushes front and rear - £150 all in. Is it just me or does that sound like quite a good price?

It's not a big job, couple of hours @ the most :) So that's about £75 per hour :D

Including fitting all the control arm and panhard rod bushes? Only 2 hours?

You'd need to build in the cost of getting to & from WCO though ET!!! IMHO is a good price :ugeek:

Hi Guys,

Just want to know if any of you have fitted the new Ironman foam shocks or heard any horrible stories about them..? I want to replace my stock suspension with Ironmans as OME is just way to expensive and from what I heard the new foam shocks from IM are actually quite good. I want the 2" lift to fit 75" profile BFG's.

Part numbers are:
TOY039B or TOY039C springs, depending on actual kg load, but if in doubt go for B's.
Choice of 12691GR (GAS) or 24691FE (New foam)
Choice of 12661GR (GAS) or 24661FE (New foam)

I have 265/75-16 BFG and they fit fine, they only rub on the chassis rail on full lock.
Mine is standard suspension not lifted at all.
If you want to lift it don't let me dissuade you :D
