Orange Coil Light on Dash - + slight stutter on hard bumps

Alright lads
More Internet diagnosis...
Whats the orange "coil" light on the dash indicate?
Mine has been turning on and off randomly lately. Can't figure out why -
there's no discernable pattern to it.
Coming to work this morning, I hit a pot hole fairly hard and it came on
but so did the turbo warning light - but only for half a second. And the
engine seemed to cut out for a micro second.
I've just nipped out for a spin down a old bumpy track to try replicate
it - managed to replicate it twice on big pot holes.
I rekon it's a loose connection somewhere and will go at it on Saturday.
In the mean time I'm trucking on as I'm working away from home.
If anyone has any other thoughts - please shout
Thanks
Niall

Initially maybe check all connections to and from the alternator.

Niall,
The 'coil' light is the engine pre-heater light.

Figured that. Can't figure why it turns on and off randomly. Could be
driving for 2 hours then it turns on for 10 minutes then off.. To
pattern

Man Jeremy!
Re > check all connections to and from the alternator.
On the to do list.

Niall,
Is it just the light, or are the heaters coming on? You can tell
with the voltmeter, it takes a bit of a dive when the heating is on.

RE> Is it just the light, or are the heaters coming on?
Heater's not coming on - am 100% sure on that.
Was thinking it was just the light alright. Was a bit of a coincidence
that it was turning on and off the exact same moment the engine died for
a half second and the turbo light flashed.
Possibly a gremlin...

Hi Niall,
That's for the glow plugs.
Most likely a problem with loose connections on the alternator or a bad
earth on the engine. It's a standard thing, if you have loose connections
or give the car a bath the dash lights up like a christmas tree with most
of the warning lights coming on!

Good remote internet diagnosis!
Spent Saturday morning tightening up everything I could see or get my
hands on. And replaced the battery terminals with "gold" marine grade
ones.
All problems now gone :)

Alright John
RE> Where di you get those battery terminals as mine are always giving
probelms.
Got them from my local Marine Chandlery.
They have long "nuts" so you can put lots of connectors on them without
any trouble.
Cheers
Niall
