Sorry, never thought how off topic I took the thread.
Reason for asking about Hilux / Surf / Land Cruiser brakes was I am looking
around for some donor parts to do a disk brake conversion on a 40 series and
want the cheapest and simplest option, hopefully the more options I have and
longer I look the cheaper and simpler it will be.
So 80 and 100 series that have disc on the rear have handbrake drums as well
- I will have to look at that, I want to retain the drive shaft mounted
brake. The best option seemed to be early hilux, non vented discs for the
rear but the callipers for those seem hard to come by used.
Need to get into a good breakers yard with some Toyota 4x4's.

Your cheapest option might be to get a complete axle from a 60 series, and
use the brake parts and whatever else fits.
Complete 2nd hand axles are pretty cheap here, maybe because 60 axles
never fail...

Thank you Denis, I can tell you have done this a few times! I was looking
the early MK2 Hilux callipers for that very reason, think they had quite
small pistons, (and to keep a little more Toyota on the pickup), have to
look harder. I am assuming I will need to look at changing the master
although the dual pistons on the rear of the FJ45 already need a huge amount
of fluid to operate, particularly if not perfectly adjusted.
Martin, can I ask what brake parts you have available from the LJ71, or is
that a little more breaking than you want to do?
