Hi guys,
I'm currently driving a 150 Landcruiser, built 2019. It could do with more power !

Has anyone here gone to town on a 150?
Turbo, intercooler, exhaust, injectors and a remap is what I think it needs.

Anyone done anything similar?

Modern engines are built small powerful light and weak , already tuned to self detonate and rely on electronics to prevent self destruction in my view

If you watch the Aussie 4x4 mechanic on youtube he's dead against trying to up the power by injectors/chips or anything of the sort, too often engines suffering cracked pistons have been tinkered with in some way.
Maybe your EGR needs a cleanout, doing that job on our 120 has made the world of difference to how it runs.

Doesn't the 150 already have a turbo/intercooler like the earlier 120's?

Here's a thought , the digitally enhanced dogma almost doubles the power of comparable old school engines of similar size , but in doing so sterilizes the experience so twice the power but half the fun . There's no character to learn and become attached to - its a robot , they have no soul .

Double the power of an old school motor and it becomes one of the family with all its quirks and faults like a dog that drives you nuts and laughs at you but makes you smile every day .

So whats mechanical character

Nobody wants to see the return of turbo lag but its a good example .

What if you re-geared by changing the diffs , the trucks ends up with more power than it can handle at anything lower than 70mph , it becomes a handful like dog dragging you with it leash , perhaps gives it some personality to gel with ?

Not sure where 'digital dogma' is heading Shayne?

But Toyota have got more of a tune out of this engine over the past few incarnations, so there are safe gains to be had and I'm sure there are safe gains to be had by increasing the fueling, breathing, cooling and exhaust for a bit more torque and acceleration.

My old 80 series defiantly benefited from some hardware upgrades and a wee fiddle with the turbo. The regrets of selling ! Looked for another but got put off by the rust issues and consequently went for this Invincible. It's ace.........but lacks a little grunt........IMO

"Grunt" is torque , its why the mighty 4.2 is so popular and why I wonder if re-gearing to trade top end speed (which we can't use anyway) for a quicker 0 to 60mph .

I'm not sure why the phrase digital dogma came to mind but my most modern experience of a cruiser was my brothers auto 120 , I felt like i was a passenger in the drivers seat .

I have a swb 90 modified 1kz-te , a 24 valve 80 series and a swb 90 1kd (all manual) Ask any novice who knows nothing about cars to drive all three and I am 100% certain they will wrongly claim the 1kz is the most powerful .

The re-gearing thing is just a theory but if you had a manual box and you could give it some boot in a field using low box in 5th gear you might get some indication of how your standard 2nd gear might feel in every day use .
